Dr. Binghong Xu is a research assistant working on the diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) portfolio at the Center for Firefighter Injury Research and Safety Trends (FIRST). Specifically, she assists with research recruitment and retention for the DEI Departmental Assessment. This includes developing department champion toolkits and facilitating data collection, management, analysis, and dissemination.
Driven by a strong interest in the health climate of first responders and a desire to enhance her research skills, Dr. Xu joined the FIRST Center in the summer of 2024. In addition to her appointment at the FIRST Center, she is a Clinical Research Study Lead with the GI Motility Team at the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia.
Dr. Xu earned her medical degree from Southern Medical University in Guangzhou, China, and practiced as a gastroenterologist for several years. After moving to the United States, she transitioned to clinical research and completed the United States Medical Licensing Examination (USMLE), obtaining the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG) certificate. She is currently pursuing a Master of Public Health in Community Health and Prevention with a minor in Program Monitoring and Evaluation from the Drexel University Dornsife School of Public Health and plans to continue her work on the DEI project as part of her Integrated Learning Experience (ILE).
